CHINAMHORA, Zimbabwe — A 35-year-old man from Molife Village under Chief Chinamhora has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the indecent assault of a 7-year-old Grade 1 pupil.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) notes that the case dates back to 29 November 2025, when the child was returning home after collecting books at a nearby homestead.

“The offender approached the girl, lured her away and indecently assaulted her before fleeing from the scene,” read the NPA statement in part.

“The child later reported the incident to her mother when she arrived home. The matter was then reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” continued the statement.

The victim was referred to Makumbe Hospital for medical examination after the assault.

A medical report confirming the indecent assault was compiled and later presented in court as evidence during the trial.

The court then sentenced the man to 15 years in prison.

Cases of such magnitude are rampant in Zimbabwe despite several arrests and convictions.

Analysts believe there is more that needs to be done to address this problem beyond arrests and convictions.

“Some of these crimes are grounded in social and spiritual problems. We need to address those socio-spiritual problems first because they are the real problem,” said True Gospel of God leader, Apostle Enias Dambudzo.
