CONCESSION, Zimbabwe — A two-year-old girl died on Saturday after she was allegedly struck on the head with a stone at Dancombe Farm Compound in Concession, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said.

Police said they arrested Aaron Jonasi, 26, in connection with the incident.

Jonasi, who is believed to have mental health challenges, is alleged to have attacked the child at the compound.

The girl suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Concession Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the police said investigations into the suspected murder are ongoing and the suspect remains in custody.

Authorities had not released the child’s name or further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident by Sunday.

The case has renewed concern about child safety in crowded living spaces and the support available for people living with mental health challenges.
