Two brothers aged three and five drowned at Binyala Dam in Sibantubantu Village, Filabusi, after going missing while their mother was washing clothes at the dam, police said.

The incident occurred on December 8, 2025, when the children accompanied their mother to the dam, where she was washing clothes, police said.

The boys later went missing, prompting villagers to launch a search.

“Their bodies were discovered submerged in the dam on December 9. The Zimbabwe Republic Police Sub-Aqua Unit retrieved the bodies and took them to Filabusi Hospital for post-mortem examinations,” the Zimbabwe Republic Police said in a statement.

Police urged parents and guardians to keep young children under close supervision near open water, warning that dams and rivers can be deadly when children are left unattended.
