MUTARE— A Mutare regional court has sentenced Collen Tongai Muzamhindo, 50, to 20 years in prison — with three years suspended — for the aggravated indecent assault of a 12-year-old boy.
The effective sentence is 17 years.
Prosecutors informed the Mutare Regional Magistrates’ Court that the attack took place on June 9.
It was the State’s case that Muzamhindo lured the boy to his house under the pretence of showing him “something nice,” then sexually assaulted him and gave him money before ordering him to leave.
The child immediately told his sister and mother, who reported the matter to the police.
A medical examination was presented in court as evidence.
“Such heinous acts will not be tolerated,” the National Prosecuting Authority said in a statement.
“The bravery of the young victim in reporting this crime and the quick action of his family were instrumental in securing this conviction.”
