Gokwe family seeks help for daughter’s mysterious condition

-

GOKWE – A family from Chief Chireya’s area in Gokwe says it has been tormented for four months by a mysterious condition affecting their Grade 4 daughter, who allegedly finds human waste appearing in her hands and on her body.

The family, from Sabhuku Mangisi 1 village in Katsvanzva, says the strange experiences began while the child was at school.

“It started about four months ago when the teachers called, saying she had a headache. Her elder brother fetched her, but from that day, things changed,” said her father, Amon Chitumbura (56).

Chitumbura said they have sought help from prophets, traditional healers, and hospitals — but the situation keeps worsening.

“She sometimes hides food inside her underwear, and it disappears as if something invisible eats it,” he said. “At times, faeces suddenly appear in her hands, in her mouth, or on her head. The smell is unbearable.”

The father, who was working in South Africa when the strange illness started, said spirits that manifest through the girl mention his late mother’s name, claiming she is responsible.

The child, the youngest of nine, has also reportedly been splashed with urine that seems to come from nowhere.

“We took her to Chireya Hospital and later to Mutora Hospital. Doctors said it could be spiritual and advised us to seek traditional help,” he explained.

According to the family, a traditional healer introduced to them through Chief Chireya stayed at their home for two weeks, charging a cow, US$300 and two blankets, but the girl’s condition did not improve.

The family is now demanding their property back and has reported the matter to Chief Chireya’s office.

The girl’s mother, Maidei Chivata (53), said the ordeal has left them traumatised.

“We are in pain. She can’t eat properly. Whatever food we give her disappears. We are begging for help from both medical doctors and traditional healers,” she said.

The family is appealing to well-wishers and experts — both medical and spiritual — to assist them in finding a lasting solution.
