Fathers Against Abuse Trust (FAA) joined regional leaders Tuesday at a meeting focused on using research to prevent violence against women and children across Southern Africa.
The event, hosted by the Sexual Violence Research Initiative in partnership with GIZ’s Partnerships for Prevention of Gender-Based Violence in Southern Africa, drew senior government officials, academics, researchers and civil society leaders.
“The discussions gave us valuable insights into what works in preventing gender-based violence, especially where engaging fathers and boys makes a difference,” FAA team leader Alois Nyamazana said.
“This was one of the most informative meetings I have ever attended and lessons learnt will help us improve the quality and impact of our programs.”
The meeting, themed “Bridging Research and Impact,” examined how evidence can inform policy and programming, strengthen collaboration among government, universities and community groups, and make findings more accessible to decision-makers.
Recent findings on technology-facilitated gender-based violence and school-based prevention programs were also shared.
FAA, a non-profit that works with men and boys to address gender-based violence (GBV), said the convening aligns with its efforts to scale proven approaches and deepen partnerships across the region.
Nyamazana thanked SVRI and GIZ for convening the forum, saying such platforms help translate research into real-world impact.
